Release Notes

This version of WiX has been replaced by WiX v3.10.2 because it contains mitigations for Windows vulnerabilities.

The WiX Toolset v3.9 release is version 3.9.1006.0.

  • wix39.exe is the installer for the WiX Toolset and is required for integration into Visual Studio.
  • wix39-binaries.zip contains the files that make up the WiX Toolset and is useful if you don't need Visual Studio integration -- for example, if you're just checking WiX into source control.
  • wix39-debug.zip contains a reference copy of the WiX source code and symbol (.pdb) files, both of which are useful when debugging problems with WiX.
  • wix39exe.zip contains the wix39.exe installer inside a .zip file, useful if your IT department prevents direct downloading of .exe files.

A bug fix release with several enhancements and fixes of interest. Ones of interest to me that are very useful: 1) allowing an elevated post-configuration tool to run after a bundle in installed; 2) update detection in the Burn engine; 3) use of SecureStrings in Burn; 4) improved DTF support for building custom actions with COM references; 5) changing the Burn default to use hashes instead of signature verification; 6) MSBuild 12.0 (VS 2013) Heat harvesting support; 7) fix a bug in Burn where the command line was re-evaluated a number of times; 8) fix DTF Icon locking issue; and 9) user creation can now be non-vital. Nice improvements and very much appreciated.
